European Job Days are back

European Job Days are events created and organised on a regular basis by EURES (EURopean Employment Services), a network designed to foster the mobility of workers in all the European Union, and these days focus on job seekers and employers to facilitate such mobility. The latest series of online meetings starts next month, and the “Travailler en France” (Work in France) session is planned on October 11 and is open to registrations since September 1st.

EURES is an initiative from the European Commission created in 1994 to facilitate the free movement of workers in Europe. The creation of the EURES network was first based on a clear objective: provide to all European citizens the same opportunities to work in Europe, free of charge, “despite the language barriers, cultural differences, administration obstacles, diversity of regulations in terms of employments, and lack of recognition of diplomas throughout Europe”.

The action of EURES in a dropping labour market

As EUROSTAT shows in its yearly publication of Key Figures about Europe, between 2019 and 2020, the employment rate in the EU dropped by 0.8 percentage point, mainly because of the COVID-19 crisis. This is the first decrease registered since the low point reached in 2013 in the wake of the global financial and economic crisis.

In this context, EURES “continuously fights to maintain employment inside the European Union” by putting in contact employers and job seekers on an everyday basis. Since its creation, the network generated close to 3 million jobs provided. Today, the network registers 5,000 employers in its database dans manages 1 million job seekers’ resumes. To reach this target, EURES organises online sessions, the European Job Days for all countries of the European Union; first in Northern European, then Southern Europe, from September 1st to November 30th.

Professional experience in France

 “What about trying a professional experience in France? Are you in?”. With this invitation, EURES presents the online day organised for France on October 11th. This day, (9:30am-4:30pm), EURES offers European job seekers to:

- Discover France, its assets and particularities in the webinar Vivre et travailler en France (Living and working in France);

- Meet employers;

- Discuss with EURES counsellors;

- Obtain information about European mobility programmes.

To be noted that job offers available are in various industries in deficit in France in terms of manpower, such as health and personal care, hotel and tourism, retail, construction and building, and IT. To participate in this day, it is mandatory to register beforehand. Registrations are both for companies and job seekers. They open on September 1st.
