The expert computer society ACM, Association for Computing Machinery, has just awarded the Turing Prize, the " Nobel Prize for Computer Science", to this trio of researchers for their work on artificial intelligence. Among them, the Frenchman Yann Le Cun who is currently professor of computer science and neuroscience at New York University and holds an annual chair at the Collège de France (Computer science and digital sciences).

In a statement, Frédérique Vidal, Minister for Higher Education and Research, welcomed the awarding of this prize, which honours "French excellence in artificial intelligence". For the minister, this prize highlights France's efforts to make artificial intelligence a research priority, in particular through A.I. for Humanity", a plan launched by the French president in 2018.

This programme, which is inspired by the report by mathematician Cedric Villani, aims to make France emerge as a world leader in a field where it already has high-quality teaching, real theoretical knowledge and outstanding researchers.
