10th edition of the Week of the Industry: inventing a sustainable future
The French ministry of economy organises a new edition of the “Semaine de l’Industrie” (Week of the Industry) all over France from November 22 to 28. This Week values the stakeholders of various fields of the industry and offers many events for young people focusing on occupations and careers, among other to promote the attractiveness and diversity of occupations.
The French ministry of economy organises a new edition of the “Semaine de l’Industrie” (Week of the Industry) all over France from November 22 to 28. This Week values the stakeholders of various fields of the industry and offers many events for young people focusing on occupations and careers, among other to promote the attractiveness and diversity of occupations.
Make industry attractive for the young audience and strengthening its value, and the value of its occupations towards the young: this is the objectives claimed by the 10th edition of the “Semaine de l’industrie” (Week of Industry) initially planned in 2020, but delayed in November 2021 because of the health crisis. The 2019 edition of the Semaine de l’industrie had attracted over 800,000 participants in 5,000 free events organised throughout the country. This event was driven by the French ministry of economy, finance and recovery, as well as France Industry, the organisation of professional representing the industry in France, and other institutional partners and professionals, and private and public companies.
To build a sustainable future
This year, the “Semaine de l’industrie” will focus on the theme “Inventer un avenir durable” (Inventing a sustainable future). According to the organisers, this theme allows to “illustrate and value the commitment of industrial stakeholders and partners of the event in the ecological and digital transition, the circular economy and the Made in France”. The event also stresses “the initiatives designed to improve the diversity of occupations and raise awareness among young girls towards industrial careers”.
To be noted that this new edition is organised in a format more adapted to the current health situation, in the sense where dematerialised events will be put forward “to guarantee the health security of participants and organisers”. Digital tours, webinars, job dating sessions and chat sessions with recruiters will be organised.
To discover the occupations and stakeholders of French industry
Traditional events (visits of companies, conferences, workshops and exhibitions) are organised throughout France, onsite, to “allow to discover the careers and occupations of French industry, and the women and men that form it”.
As a whole, the “Semaine de l’industry” 2021 should offer, still according to the designers, “multiple opportunities to inspire careers by showing that the industry offers jobs for the future, exciting, instructive and well-paid careers, and opportunities to explore the world and new technologies, while facing the challenge of energy and ecological transition”. And the organisers conclude that this event will allow the young to discover what industry is really about: “a fast-growing sector committed in the digital and ecological transition that recruits massively: over 70,000 jobs are currently still available in the industry!”.
To find talents
Indeed, according to the ministry in charge of economy and industry, it is the first time since 2000 that “the French industry creates more jobs than it destroys, and opens more sites than it closes”. And to fill them, the industry is “looking for talents”. More than 50,000 jobs are still available in the industry, and 200,000 additional jobs could be created “if we were able to answer the needs in skills of industrials who refuse orders from their clients because of the lack of skills necessary, but also because of the deficit of appetite for occupations in the industry”... And that’s the gap the Week of the Industry intends to fill!
