From July 9 to 14, Toulouse became European City of Science and welcomed researchers from all over the world. After Manchester in 2016, Toulouse is the first French city to hold the new edition of the ESOF (EuroScience Open Forum), the largest interdisciplinary meeting for science/research/innovation in Europe.

ESOF Toulouse, a European biennale created in 2004, gathered thousands of national and international researchers, but also economic and political stakeholders, European medias, and a large audience. The 2018 theme (Sharing Science: Towards Horizons) puts the emphasis on societal themes.

Conferences held in plenary sessions and workshops paced the six days of the forum and shed light on about 10 various themes:

  • development of sustainable cities;
  • opportunities and challenges in relation with global changes;
  • guidance policies and funding of research;
  • last breakthroughs in basic research;
  • advances in health;
  • understanding the reasons of divides in society;
  • new technologic orientations in relation with mobility and transport;
  • research and ethics;
  • education and knowledge sharing;
  • digital world.

The event is driven by the Federal University of Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées, supported by the ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Occitanie Region, Toulouse Métropole and many other regional and national partners.
