Overview
The École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, school for advanced study in the social sciences) was created in 1975 from the economics and social science section of the École Pratique des Hautes Études, founded in 1947 by Lucien Febvre, Charles Morazé, and Fernand Braudel. EHESS trains scholars through seminars that expose them to the practical and theoretical aspects of research. The dense seminar schedule brings students into direct, regular contact with members of the faculty and other prominent scholars as they convene to discuss their current research and research methods. EHESS maintains international cooperative agreements and partnerships with a hundred universities all over the world, in addition to its participation in mobility agreements under the European ERASMUS program.
