La Communauté Université Grenoble Alpes brings together 5 higher educational instituions and 3 research organisms: Université Grenoble Alpes (ex Joseph Fourier, Pierre-Mendès-France and Stendhal), Grenoble-INP, Institut d'Études Politiques, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Grenoble, Université Savoie Mont-Blanc, CNRS, INRIA and CEA. La Communauté Université Grenoble Alpes proposes a wide variety of courses from BA and BSc to PhD, covering all disciplines and sectors of activity. It hosts nearly 61,000 students. Its doctoral college coordinates the 14 doctoral schools of the site and monitors the training of 3,500 PhD students, 45% of whom come from abroad. Grenoble is internationally renowned in a great deal of scientific fields. Important research organisations and European instruments (ESRF, ILL, EMBL, LNCMI, IRAM), international firms' R&D centers and many excellent laboratories offer Grenoble's students an exceptional quality scientific environment, strongly linked to the business and international world. The intense partnership between higher education, research and the business world has allowed Grenoble's research to continually push forward its fields of study : micro and nanotechnology, software and smart systems, energy, environmental engineering, medicine, fundamental biology, biotechnology, management and sociology of innovation,, urban and regional planning.
