Overview
The Université de Paris 8 Vincennes Saint-Denis is the successor to the Centre Universitaire Expérimental de Vincennes and the intellectual and pedagogical excitement that followed May 1968. Inspired by the ideal of universal access to learning, the university strives to create and disseminate knowledge and critical thinking about the contemporary world. The reputation of Paris 8 is also tied to the international renown of many members of its faculty over the years, including Hélène Cixous, François Châtelet, Jean-François Lyotard, Michel Foucault, Gilles Deleuze, Serge Leclaire, Madeleine Rebérioux, Robert Castel, Michel Deguy, and Jean-Pierre Miquel, among many others. Operating in Saint-Denis since 1980, Paris 8 is the choice of students from throughout the world. The university and its faculty and staff adhere steadfastly to the principle that access to knowledge is a universal right and contributes to a more just and humane society.
