Overview
The University of Bordeaux is ranked among the top universities in France for the quality of its academic courses and research. Named a "Campus of Excellence" by the French government in 2011, it is a multi-disciplinary, research-focused, international institution.
The University of Bordeaux was newly established on the 1st of January 2014, following the merger of three universities: Université Bordeaux 1 Sciences & Technologies, Université Bordeaux Segalen and Université Montesquieu Bordeaux IV.
It welcomes more than 50,000 students, of which almost 2,000 are PhD students and 6,000 are foreign students. Around 5,600 staff members are empolyed by the University, of which 3,000 are academic and research staff.
