Overview
The Emile Cohl School has specialized in teaching Art Drawing for more than 30 years. This represents a proactive response to the denial of visualization which has existed since Abstract Art. This response is based on a simple and eternal principle among artists : viewing the world in three dimensions brought down to a flat, 2D figuration.
This is the concept of drawing’s basic forms which create a sense of familiarity of objects at hand or which makes infinite aspects accessible in the world that surrounds us. Through drawing, we embrace the mysterious spatial layout of being and objects, and thanks to the invention of modern media, in time and movement.
As proof of the validity of our aesthetic and pedagogical approach, the Emile Cohl School has trained over 1,500 contemporary imagery professionals among which are renowned figures in publishing, animated film-making, video-gaming and the digital arts. They include Benoît Chieux (Tante Hilda), Yoann Lemoine (aka Woodkid), Nedy Act (with Dreamworks), Sydney Kombo (with Framestore, Oscar “Best Special Effects” for Gravity), Maureen Wingrove (aka Diglee), etc. Our alumni have often had their work awarded with various prestigious prizes and distinctions.
To attain the highest level of recognition, the Emile Cohl School curriculum focuses on two objectives: first, ensure mastery of drawing in all its forms and, secondly, ensure mastery of imaginative drawing which take over among our students.
