Overview

The University of Lille, a multidisciplinary institute of excellence at the heart of northwestern Europe, boasts an exceptional cultural and scientific heritage that is an integral part of the history of the Hauts-de-France region.

It is composed of two types of members: the components (6 faculties, 3 institutes, 1 UFR and 2 schools) and the component institutions (ENSAIT, ENSAPL, ESJ Lille and Sciences Po Lille). With 81,000 students (11,000 of whom are from overseas), a staff of 7,700, 64 research units and a range of courses that cover all academic disciplines, it is a key stakeholder in the region for education, research and innovation and through its contributions to societal issues.

The University of Lille is also the beneficiary of a farreaching national plan to finance excellence (I-SITE - France 2030) allowing it to use special funds to run innovative projects.

 

Main programmes of study

The University of Lille’s bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral courses cover nearly all academic fields: Arts literature & languages; Law, economics & management; Healthcare; Humanities & social science; Science & technology; Sports science & techniques. The University also offers 16 courses fully taught in English and 30 run on a bilingual basis. It offers 47 dual diploma courses, 10 Erasmus Mundus master’s degrees and 4 graduate programmes, each one associated with societal themes that define the University of Lille’s strategy (Precision Health; Science for a Changing Planet; Information and Knowledge Society; and Changing Cultures, Societies, Practices).

 

Research

Covering all areas of knowledge, the University of Lille has been recognised for the quality of its cuttingedge multidisciplinary research and has been awarded prestigious labels and funding at a national level: 4 laboratories of excellence (Labex), 9 facilities of excellence (Equipex). A diverse range of scientific resources and 50 technological platforms complement its research environment. Within the region, it benefits from several bodies, networks and initiatives that contribute to the effectiveness and multidisciplinarity of its research and promote it from a socio-economic perspective. It works as part of a network with 5 technology parks and 7 competitiveness clusters where businesses and laboratories collaborate on innovative projects in cutting-edge sectors. Research training is a major focus at the University of Lille. The PhD programmes run in its laboratories and 7 Doctoral Schools enable young researchers to complete their thesis as part of renowned research teams, and the University facilitates international opportunities and operates a robust policy in support

The University of Lille is committed to developing a strong hospitality programme. ULille develops international cooperation through its many partnerships and exchange programmes with the best higher education institutions both within the European Union and with non-member countries. ULille is located in the capital of a region of 6 million inhabitants, in the heart of Northern Europe in close proximity to several European capitals. ULille supports and encourages incoming and outgoing mobilities through its scholarship program MOBLILEX. Many events (Welcome and Farewell Days, International Student Year) contribute to the inclusion of international students in our community. The opening of the International House in 2019, the development of mobile apps designed for international students (ULillGo et ULillExplore) testify to the University of Lille’s desire to welcome international guests.
