Exhibition: Silvia Tuccimei

Groupe "Australia"

Art

Silvia Tuccimei is an internationally renowned sculptor and painter. Born in Rome in 1960, Silvia moved to Paris in 1981 to pursue her obsession with the human form. In Paris, her new environment caused Silvia to re-define her use of line, form and colour in a way that peels away the layers of the “seen world” in order to expose the under-lying fragility of life. For over 25 years Silvia has explored this theme through painting and sculpture and established an international reputation that has her work in constant demand.

From 2 to 30 November, Sylvia Tuccimei will be exhibiting her work at the Alliance Française de Sydney.

According to Donatella Cannova, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney:

'Technical mastery, sense of the measure and knowledge of the classical canon are required to shape the Beauty, the one with capital letter. Silvia Tuccimei encompasses all these qualities and knowledge, that she uses in her sculptures like a metronome marking the time and the breath of her works, shaping them, but leaving them free to react to the touch and the spur of the natural elements almost like living beings, vibrating and resounding of an inner life. A different approach comes out when she paints. On the canvas, the artist struggles with her other self, the one dominated by the overwhelming strength of her pure creativity  and exuberance, manifesting vigorously in the painted gesture and in the chromatic choices, where reigns supreme almost to an excess the glorification of the fundamental colours, softened down, in other paintings, into more restful grey/pale blue tones. Always represented is the feminine body, monumental, a homage again to the classicism mediated through the master painters of the Thirties. Feminine bodies that like solitary cathedrals offer themselves to the observer’s look, questioning him with their majestic presence and their desire to find a way out of the canvas, in their relentless search of their denied half that they want to rejoin in order to reconnect with the very Beginning of everything.'
