Treasures are sometimes found in the oddest places.
Agnes Durbet and Ape, as he likes to call himself, are two French artists who chose Australia as their new home.
Agnes Durbet
I have a real passion for Australia and especially the people who are working in the industrial sector. I consider myself lucky to be part of a team of workers on sewage and water filtration plants all around Sydney for the last 4 years and experienced the daily life of the city guts.
I lived in Canada most of my adult life but was raised in France. Coming to Australia was a childhood dream. I came to this country expecting to be disappointed by an all too rough reality, but I fell in a magic well of creative minds in the most unexpected place.
Ape
The artist is secretive and full of surprise. He fancies calling himself an ape, probably because humanity isn’t meant for him.
Traveller gems seeker, Ape was raised in Morocco from a French background. He came to Australia almost 40 years back and lived on and off a bush life for over 20 years to finally settle down in Sydney. He has his own contracting company and has been working for Sydney Water since 1992.
Beasts, fairies, demons and gods are hiding in all his photographs inviting your reason, your sight and your ability to escape from reality.
