Versailles: Treasures from the Palace
Groupe "Australia"
More than 130 rare treasures from the Palace of Versailles in France will be on display at the National Gallery of Australian in Canberra, from December 9 2016. The NGA is working with the French Government in order to bring this once in a lifetime experience to Australia, and to deliver the major collection that has never been exhibited outside France.
Paintings, intricate tapestries such as those from the most important Gobelins series ever produced, gilded furniture items, monumental statues, objects from the royal gardens, and personal items from Louis XIV to Marie Antoinette will be on display during this magnificent exhibition, including the 1.5 tonne marble Lantona Fountain sculpture, which will be transported from the France to Canberra.
In order to celebrate the exhibition, the Gallery will also be hosting a range of special events, such as musical performances, children's programs and public events.
Tickets for the exhibition are currently on sale and can be purchased through Ticketek.
