An Alumni of HEC Paris, Sushil is a former Guinness World Record holder for the longest electric bicycle journey in India for 'The SunPedal Ride' project 2016. Here’s his take on his life in France, his work and how he developed his niche in sustainability and raising awareness about energy.

Q: Where did the idea of The SunPedal Ride come from?

A: I had always been conscious towards my energy emissions and sustainable practices. The idea, however, goes back to 2016 when I was working for a solar energy company. I found myself wanting to raise awareness about solar energy and electric mobility using technology as a medium. Thus came The SunPedal Ride. The idea is to have conversations about clean energy and sustainable mobility via endurance journeys undertaken on zero tail-pipe emission vehicles.

Q: How did your studies in France help you?

A: My time at HEC opened me up to the network of students and volunteers that believed in the cause. In fact, I came across the organisation- The Sun Trip (a Solar Bike Adventure to showcase for new forms of mobility) and they invited me for a solar powered bike ride in France in 2017. That experience helped me streamline my thoughts into actions.

Q: What are your future plans for The SunPedal ride?

A: I want to make it an annual event. This year I covered 6000 kilometers in 70 days on an electric car in India and in the future, I can only see the impact increasing. With the world becoming more sustainable, I wish to create a platform of interactions, volunteering, jobs and internships for individuals driven by sustainable energy and clean mobility.

Q: In what way do you think you can work with the France Alumni network in India and the French Embassy in India?

A: The support from the Embassy can certainly open me up to the vast network. I wish to engage with universities in India, perhaps include more students and Alumni in projects around Clean Energy and Sustainable Mobility. Working with like-minded individuals, getting sponsors and with the support of a strong network such as this can definitely bring up new opportunities!
