Meeting with Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, at the G7 Summit in Borgo Egnazia, Italy
The President of the French Republic held talks with the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, on Friday, on the margins of the G7 Summit in Borgo Egnazia.
The President of the French Republic congratulated Prime Minister Modi anew on his victory in the recent legislative elections in India.
The two leaders welcomed the impetus given to bilateral relations between France and India following Prime Minister Modi’s State visit to France in July 2023 and the visit of the President of the French Republic to India last January, when he was the chief guest of India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations.
The President of the French Republic and the Prime Minister of India discussed the main issues of the strategic partnership between India and France, namely projects in the energy, defence, research, and cultural sectors.
With a view to the upcoming G20 meeting in Brazil in November 2024, which will follow on from the Delhi G20, they also agreed to support international tax reform aimed at building a more stable and fairer framework for multinational companies. Lastly, they discussed the challenges of global health and vaccine production, as France prepares to host the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation on 20 June in Paris.
