The French Institute in Jordan

The French Institute in Jordan (IFJ), in Amman, is the cultural operator of the French Embassy in Jordan. It is located in one of the oldest districts of the capital of the Hashemite kingdom, at the top of Jabal Weibdeh, and has been since its creation in 1963, in a historic 1070 m² building. The IFJ houses twelve classrooms, a 100-seat multi-purpose hall (for conferences, cinema, shows, workshops, exhibitions, etc.), a media library and a café.

The IFJ offers a wide range of services and activities:

• French and Arabic courses (literary and dialectal) for all levels; in groups, one-to-one, or tailor-made, face-to-face and online; (around 1,000 learners a year) on-site or off-site

• Examinations and diplomas in French (DELF, DALF, TEF, TCF...); (around 2000 registrations per year)

• A media library, the only French-language library in the kingdom. It caters for both children and adults, with documents available to consult on site, or to borrow. It boasts a rich and varied collection of over 9,000 books: comics, adult and children's books, periodicals, digital documents, etc. (around 300 subscribers).

• A Campus France area to welcome students and inform them about French higher education, guide them in their choice of course and assist them with their applications, scholarships and visas.

• Cultural events, both inside and outside the IFJ, in partnership with Jordanian cultural players: concerts, shows, cinema, conferences and debates, exhibitions, etc.

• 2,200 students from Jordanian schools take the school Delf exam each year
• 1,000 people taking French and Arabic courses with the IFJ
• Around 30 French and Arabic teachers
• Nearly 10,000 people attend cultural events organized by the IFJ
