transmusTrans Musicales: music without borders

From December 3rd to 7th, the Trans Musicales de Rennes warm up the Breton winter. With about 90 artists from 30 countries, the 2014 edition will be both electric and exotic.

A stage for tomorrow's talents

Nirvana, Daft Punk, Björk, Ben Harper... They all made their debut in France at the Trans. Every winter for the past 36 years, the "Trans" set up in Rennes on the stages of Étage, AireLibre or Ubu. This festivalis focused on discovery and explores the new musical trends and reveals tomorrow’s new headlines.

The way of the festival

Created in 1979, the "Trans" were first a music event for French artists.

As early as 1982, the first foreign artists join the stage. It's a new way of opening borders and giving more visibility to the musicians. The festival later gained its trademark: transculture.

With about 5,500 foreign students every year, Rennes is a city opened to all influences of the world. The festival capitalises on this cosmopolitan tradition.Today, artists come from all continents.

90 artists, 30 countries: a few examples

Kate Tempest is the new Brit hip-hop breakthrough, and she's both a rapper and a poet.

The musicians from "VaudouGame" come from Togo and put soul and blues music on the music of Voodoo rites.

The Brazilian trio MetáMetá explores its yoruba origins by mixing jazz, afrobeat and samba.

On the French side, Jeanne Added mixes jazz, rock and oriental music. Grand Blanc is a French quartet that dwells on the French music from the 80's.

In parallel to the festival, meetings and discussions about the cultural industry and its players are organised. The "Trans" are also a space where cultures from all around the world discover themselves.
