In May 2015, Masilo Mafube, a graduate from the National University of Lesotho, won the Nantes Chess Cup after seven exciting rounds that took place over the last nine month.

The Cercle d’échecs de Nantes (CEN) championship was established in 1962 and has a long list of impressive winners. As the captain of the Lesotho national chess team, Masilo participated in the Chess Olympiad in Norway, in the South African Open Chess Championships in Bloemfontein, in the World Amateur Chess Championships in Singapore and in the KCFA Lesotho Challenge in Pretoria in 2014. He also played the Commonwealth and South African Open in Port Elizabeth in 2013. Congratulations!

Masilo Mafube was awarded a French government scholarship by the Embassy of France last year to pursue his Master studies in France. He is currently studying towards an International Master in Management at Audencia School of Management in Nantes and will be graduating in September. So far, Masilo has greatly enjoyed his stay in Nantes and his studies at Audencia. In January, he told the Embassy: “The few months have been a great time for me and I keep learning every day. I have also had chance to participate in regional chess tournaments. I have made new friends and I am progressing in my pursuit to learn the French language and the culture. I am still thankful for this opportunity I have been offered to stay and study in Nantes”.
