For several decades, the Palace of Versailles has been undergoing major renovations to restore its historical state and to guarantee its durability. Among these restorations, three important projects have taken place in recent years: the renovation of the Dauphin's library, the renovation of the corner cabinet and last but not least, the renovation of the stained glass windows of the Royal Chapel. These projects rely on a significant mobilization of private patronage, coming from large companies’ sponsorship in particular. For instance, the cost of restoring the Royal Chapel, 16 million euros, was borne by the Swiss Philanthropia Foundation and several other sponsors, including Saint-Gobain and LVMH. These major projects are conducted with the help of renowned experts and craftsmen such as upholsterers or cabinetmakers.

As part of the FantazEU Festival, the French Embassy and the French Institute in Azerbaijan invite you to discover three short documentaries about the renovation of the Palace of Versailles

Documentaires présentant des travaux de restauration patrimoniale au Château de Versailles

Depuis plusieurs décennies, le Château de Versailles fait l’objet de restaurations fondamentales lancées autant pour rétablir son état historique connu que pour garantir la pérennité des lieux. Parmi ces restaurations, trois projets importants ont eu lieu ces dernières années: la restauration de la bibliothèque du Dauphin, la restauration du cabinet d’angle et enfin, non des moindres, la restauration des vitraux de la Chapelle Royale. Par ailleurs, ces projets de restauration sont possibles grâce à une mobilisation significative du mécénat privé, notamment les grandes entreprises. Par exemple, le coût de la restauration de la Chapelle, 16 millions d'euros, a été pris en charge par la Fondation suisse Philanthropia et plusieurs mécènes, dont Saint-Gobain et LVMH. Ces projets pharaoniques sont possibles grâce au savoir-faire des acteurs de terrain, artisans d’exception, qui partagent avec nous leur métier et leur passion, comme par exemple des tapissiers ou ébénistes.

Dans le cadre du Festival FantazEU, l’Ambassade de France et l’Institut français d’Azerbaïdjan vous proposent de découvrir de courts-documentaires dédiés à ces travaux et métiers de restauration et conservation du patrimoine réalisés au Château de Versailles sous la responsabilité de  Frédéric Didier –architecte en chef des monuments historiques et enseignant à l’École de Chaillot-Cité de l’architecture à Paris.
