CAFE DES SCIENCES
The French Institute in Israel is pleased to announce that the next Café des sciences will take place on January, 17th at Kiosko. For this 1rst event of 2023, the French Institute invites Jérémy Raskop, a French-Israeli physicist, specialized in quantum mechanics.
Jérémy Raskopis a French-Israeli physicist, specialized in quantum mechanics, a field of physics that studies the behavior of tiny particules such as atomes and photons. Since his childhood, he lived between France and Israel. Jérémy finished high school in Israel and then returned to France to begin his higher education. He completed his doctorate in France, in the Kastler Brossel laboratory (LKB). This laboratory is a joint research unit between Ecole Normale Supérieure, Sorbonne University, Collège de France and National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). It is considered of one of the major players in the field of quantum physics. Jérémy then returned to Israel to continue his post-doctorate at the Weizmann Institute and now works in a start-up developing a quantum source of entrangled photons.
During this talk, Jérémy will explain us the strange and fascinating properties of quantum mechanics, following in the footsteps of Einstein and Neils Bohr. With him, we will explore the ability of particles to exist in multiple states at once and the concept of quantum entanglement, where particles can be linked together in a way that defies classical physics. We will also explore the techniques used to control and manipulate these tiny particles, including cooling them to extreme temperatures, near absolute zero. This opens the door to the possibility of developing a photonic quantum computer, a highly sought-after goal in both science and industry.
