Discussion: The Sámi People and their Relation to the Land

France Alumni Suède invites you to an evening of discussion about the Sámi society. The discussion will explore the Sámi tradition as caring for the lands, waters, animals and humans. We will study their relationship to the land and nature in opposition to the way Western capitalism and scientific exploitation approaches nature.
May-Britt Öhman, Sámi researcher at Uppsala University, will be in discussion with French journalist Olivier Truc, author of fictional books set among the Sámi community.
The discussion will be opened by a keynote speech by H.E. David Cvach, France's Ambassador to Sweden.
Speakers:
May-Britt Öhman is a Sámi researcher at the Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies on Racism (CEMFOR) of Uppsala University, and a PhD in History of Technology. She is a guest researcher at Luleå University of Technology. May-Britt Öhman also studied Political Science and French in Paris.
She has been active within the Sámi society since 2009.
Olivier Truc is a French journalist, and the author of best-selling thrillers set in Sweden and Norway, among the Sámi people: Le Dernier Lapon (Forty Days Without Shadow), Le Détroit du Loup (The Wolf Strait) and La Montagne rouge (The Red Mountain).
Free entrance but registration required.
