The Ferryman is a cinematic and choreographic exploration of the animistic roots of rituals, dance and sculpture and their today’s interconnectedness. Through the journey of a half-deer, half-hunter character (played by Damien Jalet), the film is a metaphoric and visceral six-step ascent of a mountain, a place of life and death. The film was shooted in the stunning volcanic landscapes of Bali, Japan and Scotland, as well as in the Louvre Museum and the Paris Opera, where the ancestral and complex relationship between human beings and nature - the connection between the visible and invisible worlds is portrayed through a series of striking ceremonies, contemporary dance performances and the narration by Artist Marina Abramović. Between documentary and fiction, Gilles Delmas’ fascinating film is choreographed by Damien Jalet and hauntingly scored by Composer Ryuchi Sakamoto.
