EDF R&D has three centers in France and six abroad to capture world energy sectors innovations and collaboratively perform applied research to tackle some of the world toughest energy challenges. You will join EDF R&D China centre located in Beijing.
You will join EDF R&D China centre as an Optimisation Research Engineer. The application domains will cover the value chain of energy industry and can be as diverse as: renewable energy production prediction, operation prediction and optimization modelling of energy service projects, hydrogen production performance optimization, and optimal (re)charging schedule of electric vehicle fleets.
You will pilot related development projects and contribute to train research engineers on the topic. You will often work within multi-disciplinary project teams, where you will apply your skills in optimization to answer the project's needs. In addition, you will contribute to develop our cooperation network with Chinese academic and research partners and participate to the roadmap of EDF R&D on your research domain.
YOUR WORK
You will work in EDF China R&D Centre in Beijing.
The tasks will include:
* Ensure the technical animation of the optimization algorithm competence.
* Anticipate the development and deployment of optimization algorithms integrated in different digital tools for different industrial applications (energy services, hydrogen, digitalization, etc.), and actively feed EDF R&D's research orientation.
* Scout and evaluate innovative solutions on your research domain.
* Work with Data scientists within the R&D center to explore hybrid AI + optimizaiton approach for various use cases. Apply machine learning models (Scikit-Learn, XGBoost, Tensorflow, PyTorch, MXNet, LLM, etc.) for prediction, classification and regression applications.
* Pilot and contribute to our deliverables (linear optimization, digital tool development, modelling and simulation, techno-economic analysis, etc.). Ensure deliverable quality. Ensure transparent and timely communication.
* Assist the development of new business (ex. Hydrogen digital tools) and research projects collaborations with local EDF business units as well as industrial and academic partners by contributing to analyses and proposals.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Science, mathematics, statistics, computer science or related major, strongly motivated candidates holding PhD or master’s degree with around 1-3 years’ experience in energy industry or optimization research work. Strong technical acknowledge or related work experience with Python.
• Acknowledge on Data science, AI, machine learning is a strong plus.
• An academic or industrial experience abroad would be appreciated.
• Good communication skills and team spirit; motivation to work in a multicultural environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
• Chinese, mother tongue.
• Fluent English both written and spoken. French is a strong plus.
