Finding a Summer Job: The Time is Now!
If you want to work this summer or during vacation, March is a good time to start making plans. The CIDJ and its network of Centres d’Information Jeunesse throughout France are organizing Summer Job Forums where you can meet companies, learn to write a better CV or cover letter, and view thousands of job offers and seasonal vacancies from all over the country.
As a student in France, no matter what your level of studies or country of origin, you can supplement your budget by working. By law, international students can work "part time" or up to 964 hours per year, the equivalent of 60% of the French legal working hours, as long as they hold a student residence permit.
AN INTERACTIVE JOB SEARCH MAP
If you want to work, you'll have to find a job! Try the interactive map of France available on the CIDJ (Centre d’Information et de documentation Jeunesse) website. Just select your region to access the Summer Job Forums and other similar programs organized near you.
In Paris, for example, the CIDJ and the Ile-de-France region are hosting an event this coming March 17 at CentQuatre (19th arrondissement, Paris) featuring over 8,000 summer jobs! 50 companies and associations will be attending, in business sectors such as reception and events, catering, sales and distribution, management, banking and insurance.
Outside Paris, all other regions are also active on the map, and the information is updated regularly. You may also be able to find contacts through local websites, depending on your region of residence.
VALUABLE TIPS
The CIDJ website also publishes practical advice on how to find a job. Since a summer job is still a real job, even though it's part-time, the website provides useful information for getting organized, understanding the work world, and identifying all the sectors that are recruiting. Besides general advice and a downloadable online guide, the website also offers recommendations by sector and type of business. Every possibility is explored in detail: summer jobs in hotels, vacation facilities, on the beach, at festivals, in museums, in higher education establishments, in agriculture, in tourism, etc.
