On Olympic Day, Friday 23 June, Paris 2024 and the Torch Relay Official sponsors, Coca-Cola, les Banques Populaires and les Caisses d’Epargne, unveiled the route of the Olympic Torch Relay.

In the historical setting of the Grand Amphitheatre of the Sorbonne, where Pierre de Coubertin made the founding speech which established the modern Olympic Games, Paris 2024 revealed the 64 territories involved in the Relay and the first 165 locations (the 65 celebration sites and the 100 iconic places) which will welcome the Olympic Flame. The remaining towns, cities, and sites to be visited by the Olympic Flame will be disclosed by the territories involved in the Relay, starting today and over the next few weeks.

Respected “captains” and public figures as ambassadors engaging the whole of France in the Torch Relay

The Paris 2024 Forerunners’ Relay is counting on its four “captains” to thrust the energy of sport onto the streets of France and to open the celebrations ahead of the Games. They will be particularly present during the most important moments of the Relay to make the Torchbearers’ experience even more special.

Laure Manaudou (Olympic 400m freestyle champion, silver medallist in the 800m freestyle and bronze medallist in the 100m backstroke at the Olympic Games Athens 2004) and Florent Manaudou (Olympic 50m freestyle champion at the Olympic Games London 2012, two-time silver medallist in the 4x100m and 50m freestyle at the Olympic Games Rio 2016, and silver medallist in the 50m freestyle at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020). The handover of the Torch between the swimming champion siblings will be one of the most spectacular moments of the Relay for French sport.

Mona Francis (2022 European paratriathlon [PTWC] champion in Olsztyn, Poland) and Dimitri Pavadé (long jump T64 silver medallist at the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020) are two models of self-sacrifice for sportspeople of every generation.

Four public figures have also joined the Torch Relay family. These first ambassadors represent each in their own way the three energies of the Relay: the energy of sport, the energy of the territories and the energy of the collective. Chosen for their inspiring careers, their engagement and their ability to stimulate emotion among the people of France, they will carry the Torch and celebrate this moment of joy with the people of France.

Jamel Debbouze will bring his amazing actor talent to the great human adventure that is the Torch Relay. A personality beloved by the French, he represents the great unifying spirit of this significant people’s festival.

Marine Lorphelin is an accomplished and active young woman doctor. She embodies, among other things, the values of sport, which is an integral part of her daily life. During the Torch Relay, she will promote sport for health, in particular.

Thierry Marx, representing French gastronomy’s finesse and innovation, he will highlight the French people’s love of their land and will promote the savoir-faire of our country.

Thomas Pesquet is France’s most experienced astronaut, representing the values of excellence and surpassing oneself. He will inspire the people of France once again with his extraordinary account of the beauty and abundance of our planet.

On the side of the Torch Relay Official Sponsors, Armel Le Cleac’h, skipper of the Maxi Banque Populaire XI, will also be at the helm of the Olympic Torch Relay during the unique Atlantic crossing. The fastest yachtsman around the world in a monohull will carry the Flame from Brest to Guadeloupe and Martinique for the Relay across the Oceans.

The Olympic Flame will also be showcased throughout the country thanks to Coca-Cola’s team of ambassadors, who will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
