Summer exhibitions: our selection

In the wake of the exhibition on Piaf, to which many of you came at our invitation, and before the next event we'll invite you to, here are a few interesting exhibition held all over France.  They're waiting for you!

In the Paris region:

LARTIGUE, A LIFE IN COLOURS

No need to introduce Jacques Henri Lartigue, the iconic French photographer who witnessed a whole century. He started taking pictures as early as 1902, when he received his first camera. During his 80-years long career, he took about 100 000 pictures, of which about 1/3 are in colours. This significant part of his work had never been exhibited before: the current exhibition shows that Lartigue was undoubtedly a great colourist.

In Southern France:

CANALETTO, ROMA - LONDON - VENICE

Giovanni Antonio Canal, aka Canaletto (1697-1768), is known for the iconic figure of the veduta movement, a Venetian artistic creation from the 18th century highly praised in Europe. The opening exhibition of the gorgeous and recently renovated Hôtel de Caumont sheds a new light on Canaletto's body of work, with a special focus on the treatment of light in the Venetian master's paintings.

In Western France:

S.E.N.S BY MARC-ANTOINE MATTHIEU

The genius graphic novel illustrator and scriptwriter Marc-Antoine Matthieu offers an art piece in deck 14 of the former submarine base in Saint-Nazaire. S.E.N.S. is a spatial story designed as a wander. You will follow your own tracks and wander blindly, with the horizon as only guide. At first a one-line music sheet, the story then becomes a glimmer, a crack, a track, a sign or an illusion; it follows you on the way, unveils and reforms...

In South-western France:

CLAUDE LÉVÈQUE, BLUE IN THE EYE

For Le Bleu de l’œil in the Soulages museum, the visitor wanders in a nocturnal brightness under the sky or the ocean. Surrounded by blue waves, his step gets stuck. A wander in an ethereal space both liquid and aerial covered by vibrations that blur the sensorial perception of the place. At the same place, you may enjoy the unique collection of Pierre Soulages, one of the most important French painters.
