Interview of Andrea Low, winner of the France Alumni Singapore photo contest
Hello Andrea. Thank you for your participation in the 2020 France Alumni photo contest. You studied in France. Could you tell us about your studies and your student life in France?
Thank you for this initiative! I was studying sociology and economics at Sciences Po Le Havre Campus last year and graduated with a Bachelor degree. Living the French experience was very interesting because the city is not big and you need to go out of your comfort zone!
How did you like Le Havre?
As mentioned, Le Havre was a surprisingly small city. Supermarkets were closed on Sundays and people were not always conversant in English. Therefore, Le Havre was an eye-opener and gave me the opportunity to see what the real France is, and how it is completely different from Singapore.
Le Havre is in Normandy, did you visit the region?
Yes. Normandy is incredible for its landscapes and history. I went to Le Mont Saint Michel. It was really beautiful.
What is your best memory in France?
My best memory was in Cote d’Azur, in the South of France. The region is so beautiful and the weather very good there.
Was it your first time in France?
It was my first time living in France, but I had the chance to do a one-week visit of Paris through my high school in a partnership with Sciences Po.
Do you have any advice for future students?
Yes. Living the French experience involves meeting the locals, going to the boulangerie, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone!
What about French food?
I loved French food so much! And I still cook French delicacies. For example, yesterday I prepared Boeuf Bourguignon for my family. Everyone was really happy!
Thank you and once again, congratulations!
