Understanding the past to predict the future : the perspective on climate
Last year (2015 ) was the warmest year since the first weather records began in 1880. Statistics show that temperatures will rise.
Faced with this alarming prospect, 195 countries have signed an agreement to reduce their CO2 emissions by 2020 at the COP 21 in 2016.
Why are these countries concerned about their emissions of greenhouse gases? What are the effects of greenhouse gases? Are they a real threat to the health of ecosystems? Here are some questions which we will attempt to answer in this scientific meeting on 26th of April.
Prof. Christelle Not is an assistant professor in the Earth Sciences Department of Hong Kong University. Prof. Not’s research focuses on the reconstruction of climatic and environmental conditions through sediment geochemistry and fossils such as foraminifera, ostracods and corals. One of her main interests is to reconstruct the climatic condition of the Arctic Ocean where she has had the opportunity to spend three months in a scientific research vessel. During the past 10 years she has worked in Canada, Monaco, Japan and Germany.
Come and join “Science Rendez-vous” (in English) on climate change, which will be animated by Prof. Christelle NOT!

About "Science Rendez-vous":
Dedicated to a large audience, these monthly talks aim at taking part in the dissemination of scientific culture in Hong Kong. Through informal talks and exchanges with the audience, renowned experts from France or Hong Kong will popularize a large variety of scientific topics.
The « Science Rendez-Vous » will stay close from topical issues and will keep an eye on ground-breaking discoveries made by French or local teams as well as teams working in cooperation between the two countries.
The talks will be given in English in the following format: 30 minutes speech usually without any PowerPoint presentation followed by a Q&A session fostering interaction between the speaker and the audience.
By partnering with the restaurant « Chez Patrick Deli » who will host these « Science Rendez-Vous » at its Deli restaurant Brim 28, we hope to turn these learning moment into convivial evenings while having the possibility to enjoy the French gastronomy at the same time (cheese and cold cuts platters with a glass of wine, for instance).
