Job description

Job Summary:

As a Senior Functional QA, you will be instrumental in implementing software quality assurance best practices throughout the software development life cycle (Agile and Waterfall). Your primary focus is to ensure high-quality standards, providing stakeholders with essential information for decision-making, identifying defects during test campaigns, ensuring traceability, and minimizing production issues.

You will work closely with Operations, Business System Analysts, and Developers, leveraging your deep technical and functional expertise in API analysis, design, automation and testing. In addition to your core QA responsibilities, you will play a key role in assisting a major client during their migration to our API platform, addressing all technical and functional aspects of the transition. Your expertise will ensure that the client's integration is smooth and that any issues are resolved promptly.

Furthermore, you will continue to conduct functional testing of complex trading systems in the future, ensuring that all systems meet stringent quality standards and contribute to the success and reliability of our projects.

We are offering the opportunity to take on dual roles as a Scrum Master/QA or Business Analyst/QA, should the opportunity arise, providing flexibility for career growth and skill diversification.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Requirement Review:
- Ensure the clarity and completeness of project requirements by actively participating in various Scrum meetings to fully understand and validate all requirements.

2. Test Plan Development:
- Review and develop comprehensive test plans based on project requirements to ensure thorough coverage.

3. API Design, Architecture, and Client Interaction:
- Design and architect API solutions, ensuring they meet scalability, reliability, and performance standards.
- Act as the reference for API-related matters, addressing client questions and providing technical expertise.
- Support clients during the installation and integration of API solutions, offering guidance and troubleshooting assistance.
- Read and analyze technical files, queries, and documentation related to APIs, providing valuable insights and understanding of complex technical issues.

4. Analysis and Design:
- Collect and assess the test basis and the input required for functional analysis
- Design and prioritize test cases to ensure effective testing.

5. Test Execution and automation:
- Execute planned functional test cases, both manual and automated.
- Document test case execution and defects accurately.
- Test API functionality to ensure it meets specified requirements and quality standards.
- Automate API queries.
- Transfer knowledge to end-users and support the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phase.

6. Reporting and Knowledge Sharing:
- Check test outcomes against exit criteria.
- Maintain comprehensive technical and functional documentation related to APIs.
- Provide release advice as input for decision-making.
- Share expertise and knowledge with team members and clients.


Desired profile

Key Requirements:

Hard Skills:
- 5+ years of QA experience and strong understanding of ISTQB standards (having an experience as business analyst, product owner or scrum master is considered a plus).
- Advanced knowledge of API design principles, architecture, and implementation.
- Proficiency in using API testing tools like Postman, SoapUI, or Insomnia to manually test and validate API requests and responses.
- Expertise in identifying, documenting, and analyzing business and technical requirements for APIs
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including participation in Scrum ceremonies, backlog grooming, and sprint planning.
- Experience using project and test management tools like JIRA, Confluence, Xray..
- Ability to automate functional test scenarios, such as using tools like Postman, RestAssured, or Selenium to validate the business logic behind API operations or simulate user actions.
- Expertise in designing detailed and structured functional test cases/test plan based on business use cases and user stories. This includes writing comprehensive test cases that cover positive, negative, boundary, and edge-case scenarios.
Soft Skills:
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial for translating complex technical issues into business language that non-technical stakeholders can understand. It also enables clear discussions with business analysts, product owners, and developers.
- Analytical Thinking: The ability to break down complex problems and processes to understand how systems work. This skill is critical for understanding business logic and identifying gaps in requirements or testing strategies
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to identify root causes, analyze alternative solutions, and come up with innovative approaches to testing and automation. This skill is essential for thinking outside the box and proposing new ideas.
- Critical Thinking: The ability to question assumptions, evaluate information from multiple angles, and challenge the status quo. This leads to more comprehensive testing strategies and the ability to foresee issues before they arise.
- Creative Thinking: The ability to think creatively and come up with unconventional testing methods or solutions. This encourages finding innovative ways to automate or test APIs that are not immediately obvious, making the process more efficient.
- Attention to Detail: The capacity to notice small but crucial details that others might overlook, which is essential when validating complex business logic or identifying potential gaps in the testing process
- Curiosity and Continuous Learning: A natural drive to learn new technologies, methodologies, and business processes. This helps in staying updated with trends and continuously improving approaches to testing.

Education and Experience:

- Master’s degree in Engineering, IT, Science, Economics, Statistics, or equivalent.
- Certifications: ISTQB/CFTL/TMAP Foundation Level, PSM1 (optional).
- Minimum of 5 years as a QA Analyst and 3 years working with APIs and Agile development methodologies.

Language Skills:

- Fluent in English (written and verbal).
- Knowledge of French and/or Dutch is considered a plus.
