The new documentary "Le IIIe Reich n'aura pas la bombe" by Nicolas Jallot will be shown on September 17th at the Oslo Cinemateket in the presence of the production director. It comes back to the events which led during the Second World War to the "battle of heavy water", in which Jacques Allier, former president of the French-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce played a major role.
1939. In Germany, Werner Heisenberg is the most talented and the most advanced in nuclear research. In France, similar research is carried out by Irène Curie and her husband Frédéric Joliot-Curie, under the tutelage of a newly created body, the CNRS.
A crazy race against the clock then starts, mobilizing scientists, politicians and secret services. For their research, German and French scientists need a substance, extremely rare, produced by only one factory in the world located in Norway: heavy water. Whoever has heavy water has control over the atom.
This is the most incredible and secret battle of the Second World War, which we call the Heavy Water War. But the Third Reich shall not get the bomb: Norwegian resistants, French scientists and American researchers will prevent it from happening.
