Club Science - Are we ready for the next volcanic eruption?

Groupe "Norvège"

The Institut français de Norvège's Club Science is happy to start the year 2019 with a volcano-themed gathering. The researcher Tjarda Roberts will come to share her findings in Oslo.

Did you know that volcanos have their responsibilty when it comes to the ozone hole? Remember when the small Islandic volcano Eyjafjöll erupted in 2010 and there was so much ash in the air that planes couldn’t fly over Europe for almost a week? All the steam, ashes and gas released by volcanos during eruptions have massive consequences on our climate and our lives (especially if you’ve lived in Pompei). We need scientific tools to measure and foresee the impact of eruptions. Tjarda Roberts, researcher at the CNRS Physics and Chemistry of the Environment and Space Laboratory in Orléans will present to us how she quantifies volcanic gas-particle emissions and their atmospheric impacts through field observations and computer modeling.

Rendez-vous on January, Tuesday 29th, 18:00, at the Institut français for a new Club Science conference in English!

The event is free and there you will have the opportunity to enjoy some French wine and cheese.

Don't forget to register here and share the Facebook event.
